Chrysalis

Chrysalis is the first episode of the game Life is Strange. The story starts with Maxine ("Max") Caulfield in class, after her return to Arcadia Bay in Oregon. This first episode mostly deals with her return, her relationships to her classmates and her best friend of the past - Chloe Price. The player also will run into the first hints about, what happened to Rachel Amber.

The lighthouse nightmare

The story starts with Max on the middle of the woods during a rainstorm. She doesn't know how she got there or why is she there. She walks against the wind and rain until she reaches the lighthouse, where the player can see a big tornado from the view of the cliff, on the middle of the sea and aproaching the city of Arcadia Bay. Max at first notices it, and then looks up to some peaces of the light house that were destroyed because of a ship thrown by the power of the tornado. Before they crush her, she awakes suddenly in the middle of the class of Mr. Jefferson, like if all the storyline that happened on the woods and on the cliff near the lighthouse was all a dream.

Classroom at Blackwell Academy

Max suddenly wakes up in the classroom full with other students after her surreal dream of the storm and the lighthouse. While her teacher, Mr. Jefferson, is talking, Max is looking around and also is inspecting the clock. The players can follow her thoughts about the strange "dream" and interact with objects around her desk.(Use Left-Mouse-Button) Players can pick up a photo, Max' journal, camera and have a look at Pencil Case. When Max is taking a selfie, she's suddenly the center of interest of Mr. Jefferson, who is now also asking her directly. It's also the first time, Max can make a choice in what to answer him.

This scene ends with the ringing of the school bell and Jefferson reminding everbody about the "Everyday Hero" photo contest. The students leave the room, except for Kate, Victoria and Mr. Jefferson. Max, not bound to the desk anymore, can inspect the room and its items a little further, talk to Kate and Mr. Jefferson.

Blackwell Academy hall

This is the game intro and we can follow Max through the Blackwell Academy hall to some sweet tune. While the developer's names roll, we can inspect the classmates in the hall a little more closer.

In the girl's lavatory

Max goes there to splash some water into her face and to think. There is a blue butterfly, which suddenly is flying through the open window. Max can take a photograph, when the insect sits down on the rim of a bucket. This action is also an achievement. All of a sudden, the door is pushed open and a blue haired girls appears, followed by some guy, we can recognise as Nathan Prescott. They argue about money and Nathan pulls out a gun, when the girl gets too feisty. Max can hide, but then the girl, which turns out to be her old friend Chloe is shot into the stomach and the story won't go on this way.

Back in the classroom again

The scenery is suddenly back to the classroom from where Max started earlier. Max is convinced, she already had heard the same lecture of Mr. Jefferson. After she recognises the same actions of her fellow students she had seen before, she frightenedly pushes down her camera, which breaks. At this point, the player can make Max actively rewind the time and fix the camera this way in holding the right-mouse-button. Hold and wait, the spiral in the top-left-corner will show.

When Max is taking a "selfie" again, Jefferson will ask the same question "what process gave birth to the first self-portrait?" as he did before, which now can be answered by Max and not by Victoria, should Max rewind time again in this scene.

Dormitory

Before Max can enter the Girl's Dormitory, she must get past Victoria and her cronies, who are blocking the door. There are a few other people around and Max must look to find a way into the dorm.

Car park

Max is supposed to meet Warren at the car park, but before talking to him, she can walk around and look at the other cars. One is the RV of Frank, the other the pick-up truck later driven by Chloe.

Her talk with Warren suddenly ends, when Nathan enters the scene and threatens her. Max and Nathan get into a fight, which then is interrupted by Chloe's driving by pick-up truck. Max jumps in and the girls drive off.

Lighthouse

The episode closes with a sudden snowfall, very unusual for the time of the year.
