Chaos Theory is the third episode of Life is Strange and was released on 19th May 2015.
The name of the episode came likely from a series of discussion between Chloe and Max in Episode 2:
“ | Do you know about Chaos Theory? | „ |
~ Chloe Price |
“ | What do you know about Chaos Theory, Miss "I Hate Math"? | „ |
~ Maxine Caulfield |
“ | Five years ago, asswipe. Some people change... and your situation is the perfect storm for quantum physics. | „ |
~ Chloe Price |
“ | Why me? I'm just a geek girl in some small town. | „ |
~ Maxine Caulfield |
“ | A perfect example of "strange attractors." Don't they teach you kids anything at Blackwell? | „ |
~ Chloe Price |
Chaos Theory is a field of mathematics summarized by Edward Lorenz as "Chaos: When the present determines the future, but the approximate present does not approximately determine the future."[1] It is likely this episode will expand on Max's powers, and the science and reason behind them.
Max' room[]
This episode starts at night in Max's room. She is preparing for night out with Chloe, to find more evidence for Rachel Amber's disappearance. Max can talk to a few students, who are still awake, on her way out. Taylor is in the shower room, Dana is in her room.
Dormitory:Exterior[]
As soon as Max leaves the Dormitory, she should go to the exit and meet Chloe. Unfortunately, a very drunk Principal Wells just leaves the other wing and starts to sit on the stairs, blocking the exit for Max. Max can have a short conversation, but the Principal always will send her back to the Dormitory. She then can have look around, but won't find anything helpful, but her powers, to make it past the Principal. If she enters Samuel's "room", she can find a very feminine scarf on the floor.
The Principal's office[]

Chloe's House[]
Two Whales Diner - Frank's Trailer[]
After Max and Chloe have arrived at the Two Whales Diner, they must check out Frank's RV, which is parking next to the diner building. The door is locked, but Chloe is sure, Frank has his lunch and talks Max into getting the RV's keys somehow from Frank.
Max should enter the diner and look around. Frank sits on the left side of the diner, when Max enters. Nathan Prescott is also having lunch and Max can have a rather unpleasant chat, which also will get her some useful information for the talk with Frank. It turns out, Frank might have truly feelings for Rachel Amber.
Frank's dog[]
After the girls have the RV keys, they must lure Frank's dog out. Max can decide where she throws the treat, so the dog is occupied, while they search the RV. Either the dog runs off into safety or will find it's demise on the road close to the diner.
Inside the RV[]
Back to the past[]
With the help of an old photo, which is showing Max and Chloe as kids, it is possible for Max to return to the moment in time, when the shot was taken.
- To do this, use the Left Mouse and Right Mouse Button and the keys "A" and "D" to focus. Once the photo is sharp again, release and the image will zoom in.
Suddenly, Max is her younger self again and in the house of Chloe's family. She should keep William from using the car, thus avoiding the accident to happen. Max probably must rewind time a few times, until she gets the right result.
- Find William's car keys and hide them.
When Max was successful, she returns to the Alternative Timeline.
